Evaluation of different methods of catching anopheline mosquitoes in western Venezuela.

چکیده
During a longitudinal study of vector biology and malaria transmission in western Venezuela, adult mosquitoes were collected by different methods and their efficiency was compared with human landing catches. CDC light traps, a double-net, a calf-baited trap and collection of resting mosquitoes on vegetation were tested. These methods did not prove to be effective substitutes for human landing catches.

A note on spatial and temporal distribution of Anopheline mosquitoes in Western Ghats, Southern India
Mosquito faunal surveys were carried out in different habitats of 11 hill ranges of the Western Ghats between 2000 and 2012. Thirty three anopheline species were examined and recorded out of 8730 specimens belonging to subgenera Anopheles (12) and Cellia (21). Very low densities of malaria vectors Anopheles (Cellia) fluviatilis (0.7%) and An. (Cel.) culicifacies (3.04%) were also recorded.

An illustrated key to the female anopheline mosquitoes of Central America from western Panama to the southern border of the United States is presented with a taxonomic summary and distribution table. Thirty-nine species and one subspecies are treated: Chagasia (1), Anopheles (Anopheles) (25 and one subspecies), An. (Kerteszia) (2), An. (Lophopodomyia) (1), An. (Nyssorhynchus) (9) and An. (Steth...
متن کاملPhysical, Chemical and Biological Characteristics in Habitats of High and Low Presence of Anopheline Larvae in Western Kenya Highlands
BACKGROUND Characteristics of aquatic habitats determine whether mosquitoes will oviposit, hatch, develop, pupate and successfully emerge into adults or not, thus influencing which mosquito species will occupy a habitat. This study determined whether physiochemical and biological characteristics differ between habitats with high and low presence of anopheline larvae. METHODS Physical, chemica...
متن کاملImplicating Cryptic and Novel Anophelines as Malaria Vectors in Africa
Entomological indices and bionomic descriptions of malaria vectors are essential to accurately describe and understand malaria transmission and for the design and evaluation of appropriate control interventions. In order to correctly assign spatio-temporal distributions, behaviors and responses to interventions to particular anopheline species, identification of mosquitoes must be accurately ma...

Malaria and other mosquito borne diseases are common in Kolkata, India. Among the 34 species of mosquitoes recorded from Kolkata, 13 are anophelines, of that Anopheles annularis Van der Wulp, An. culicifacies Giles, and An. stephensi Liston are established vectors of malaria1–3. The abundance of these vector mosquitoes varies with the season and available habitats2–4. Mobility of human hosts be...
